Warner Bros. Unveils Star-Packed Cast for 'Margie Claus,' Shifts Release to November 2027
Warner Bros. Pictures Animation has set a November 12, 2027 theatrical release for Margie Claus, a Christmas musical feature from director Kirk DeMicco — and unveiled a cast that stretches from Melissa McCarthy to Jim Gaffigan, Andrew Scott, and Maria Bakalova (The Hollywood Reporter).
The new date is a one-week push from the film's previous slot. By sliding back, Margie Claus avoids opening directly against Naughty, Universal's holiday comedy directed by Olivia Wilde and starring Jennifer Aniston and Peter Dinklage, which arrives November 7, 2027. Paramount's adaptation of the bestselling novel Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, is currently dated for the same November 12 weekend as Margie Claus (The Hollywood Reporter).
McCarthy, previously announced in the title role, voices Santa's wife — a woman who must venture to the dangerous South Pole to rescue her husband and save Christmas. Gaffigan voices Santa. Scott, fresh off his turn in All of Us Strangers, is set as Jack Frost (The Hollywood Reporter).
The ensemble also includes Annie Mumolo, Octavia Spencer, Gary Farmer, Luis Gerardo Méndez, Cedric Yarbrough, and Maria Bakalova, alongside Tony Award-winning comedian and actor Cole Escola, who boarded the project earlier this year (AWN). Georgette Falcone rounds out the cast list.
DeMicco directs from a script by Ben Falcone and Damon Jones. Falcone and Jones are also writing and producing original songs for the film, alongside Meghan Trainor — making Margie Claus a full-blooded musical with pop-chart DNA behind its numbers (The Hollywood Reporter).
McCarthy and Falcone produce through their On the Day Productions banner, with Michelle L.M. Wong also producing. The project is the latest family-animation title in development under Warner Bros. Pictures Animation, the division formerly known as Warner Animation Group.
For the holiday corridor, the reshuffle matters. The first weekend of November 2027 now belongs to Universal's Naughty uncontested by the Warner animated entry, while November 12 sets up a three-way contest: an animated Christmas musical, a literary drama adaptation, and whatever else studios slot into that frame as the date draws closer. Release-date chess of this kind is routine — studios routinely claim and adjust weekends years in advance, jockeying to avoid splitting their target audience with a direct competitor.
For audiences, the takeaway is simpler: two years from now, the holiday season of 2027 will offer a packed slate, and Margie Claus now has the cast and the songs to make noise when it arrives.
