CBS Announces 'Daughters of 9/11' Special for 25th Anniversary of September 11 Attacks

CBS will mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks with a two-hour television special built around two women who have spent decades pushing for answers about the fathers they lost.
"Daughters of 9/11" is set to air on CBS from 9pm to 11pm ET on September 11, 2026, and will also stream on Paramount+, the network announced on August 20, 2026 Variety.
The special follows Elizabeth Miller and Jessica Trant. Miller was six years old when her father, New York City firefighter Douglas Miller, died in the World Trade Center collapse. Trant was 19 when her father, Cantor Fitzgerald bond salesman Daniel Trant, was killed on the 104th floor of the North Tower.
The two women joined forces with FBI special agent Frank Pellegrino, who interrogated 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed — commonly known as KSM — at Guantánamo Bay. The special features Mohammed's confession delivered in his own words: "I was responsible for the 9/11 operation from A to Z … I did it."
The production brings together several high-profile names. Dick Wolf — the producer behind the "Law & Order" and "FBI" television franchises — serves as executive producer alongside Tom Thayer and Daniel Voll of Blowback Productions. Susan Zirinsky and Terence Wrong executive produce for See It Now Studios, CBS's documentary unit. Marc Levin directed and produced the special, with Daphne Pinkerson also producing.
Terry McDermott, co-author of "The Hunt for KSM," a book about the pursuit of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, serves as consulting producer. Brendan Ryan, who lost his wife in the September 11 attacks, created the score. Aysu Saliba and Cara Tortora served as supervising producers.
The personal connections run through the entire production. Two of the central subjects lost their fathers. The composer lost his wife. The consulting producer spent years documenting the hunt for the man who planned the attacks. For the 25th anniversary, CBS is putting that constellation of direct experience on screen in prime time.
