CBS Lines Up Full-Day 9/11 25th Anniversary Coverage Across Network, Paramount+ and Streaming
CBS will dedicate its morning and primetime schedule on 11 September to live coverage and special programming marking the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, with the full slate also streaming on Paramount+ (Variety, 20 August 2026).
The day begins on CBS Mornings, where co-hosts Gayle King and Nate Burleson will anchor from New York. CBS Evening News anchor Tony Dokoupil will report from Ground Zero, and 60 Minutes correspondent Norah O'Donnell will report from the Pentagon. At 8:30 a.m. ET, Dokoupil and O'Donnell will launch a 90-minute special report covering memorial ceremonies in New York, Shanksville and at the Pentagon. O'Donnell will also interview General Dan Caine, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Primetime brings two specials. At 8 p.m., Dokoupil will anchor We Remember, broadcast live from Ground Zero and built around three stories connected to the attacks. At 9 p.m., CBS will present Daughters of 9/11, in which Elizabeth Miller, Jessica Trant and FBI special agent Frank Pellegrino examine whether Khalid Sheikh Mohammed will ever face justice. Dokoupil will also anchor CBS Evening News live from Ground Zero at 6:30 p.m.
60 Minutes will have a prominent role across the anniversary. Lesley Stahl will revisit a story first reported by her late colleague Ed Bradley about Summit, New Jersey, a town that lost nine residents in the attacks. A selection of 60 Minutes reporting on 9/11 and its aftermath will be available on CBSNews.com, Paramount+ and the CBS News YouTube channel. The programme's 59th season begins two days later, on Sunday, 13 September.
Coverage extends well beyond the network broadcast. CBS News 24/7, the division's free streaming channel, will carry comprehensive coverage starting at 7 a.m. ET, stream the 90-minute special report at 8:30 a.m., and continue live from 10 a.m. to noon ET. CBS New York is producing more than two dozen stories on the attacks and recovery, including an augmented-reality explainer from its AR/VR studio about the rebuilding of the World Trade Center campus. Kristine Johnson and Jessica Moore will anchor a one-hour CBS New York special from the 9/11 Memorial on Thursday, 10 September, with anchored memorial coverage continuing the following day.
A 60 Minutes Overtime segment titled Preserving the Story of 9/11 will also feature Lesley Stahl's 2013 visit to the 9/11 Museum, a year before it opened, exploring the debates and decisions behind the museum's creation (CBS.com).
The breadth of the slate places anchors at every major attack site, spreads archived and new reporting across linear, streaming and digital platforms, and puts a long-running newsmagazine at the centre of a day that CBS is treating as both a news event and a programming pillar.
