Snoop Dogg Biopic Casts Its Dr. Dre: Myles Bullock Be Joins Universal's 'Snoop'
Myles Bullock Be has been cast as Dr. Dre in Universal Pictures' upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic, simply titled Snoop. The Hollywood Reporter broke the exclusive on 20 August 2026.
Dr. Dre is the mentor figure in the story — the producer behind Snoop Dogg's 1993 debut album Doggystyle, and a partnership that shaped the sound of West Coast hip-hop. Bullock Be steps into the role opposite Jonathan Daviss, the Outer Banks star who was announced as Snoop Dogg himself back in June 2025.
Craig Brewer is directing. Brewer and Bullock Be already share a credit: the 2024 Peacock mini-series Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist. Brewer also wrote the latest draft of the Snoop script, taking over from an earlier version by Joe Robert Cole, whose credits include Marvel's Black Panther screenplays.
The producing team spans both sides of the camera. Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum produce through Imagine Entertainment, with Jeb Brody executive producing for the same company. Snoop Dogg himself produces through Death Row Pictures alongside the label's president, Sara Ramaker. Having the subject of a biopic in the producer's chair is common enough in the genre — it gives the artist direct influence over how their life reaches the screen.
Universal has staked out a 6 August 2027 release date for the film, planting it squarely in the summer corridor. The film will carry an R rating, as confirmed by Yahoo Entertainment in July 2026. It will draw on Snoop Dogg's own music catalogue — a significant asset, given that Snoop controls the rights to much of his work through Death Row Records, the label he acquired in 2022.
Universal first announced the project in November 2022, describing it at the time as the "definitive biopic" of Snoop Dogg's life. Four years will have passed between that announcement and the planned release — a timeline that reflects the long chain of casting, scripting and scheduling decisions behind any studio biopic.
For fans of the era, the casting of Bullock Be as Dr. Dre means the central creative relationship that launched Snoop Dogg's career will be dramatised on screen. The film now has its two leads, its director, a finished script and a release date — the pieces a studio needs before cameras roll.
