Gang of Youths Return After Four Years With 'Things Take Time' — a Single That Took Three Years to Make
Gang of Youths released 'Things Take Time' on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 — their first new music in four years. The three-minute single arrived via Mosy Recordings, Sony Music Australia, RCA U.K. and Arista U.S., accompanied by an official audio video on the band's YouTube channel (YouTube).
The gap between releases was long, but the studio timeline was nearly as patient. Bandmate Jung Kim told Billboard that it took three years to make the three-minute song.
The track was written by the four core band members: David Le'aupepe, Tom Hobden, Donnie Borzestowski and Jung Kim. It was self-produced and recorded at Decoy Studios in Suffolk, England, with engineering by Robert Sellens and Jung Kim. Le'aupepe handles vocals and piano, Hobden plays violin, Borzestowski is on drums, and Kim covers guitar and keyboards. Additional contributions come from Andrew Burgess on bass guitar, Nick Etwell on trumpet, Dave Williamson on trombone and Klara Schumann on cello.
Gang of Youths moved to London towards the end of 2017, and the English countryside studio setting fits a band that has been based in the U.K. for nearly a decade. Their last album, 2022's Angel in Realtime, was their third studio release and their second consecutive No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart — the national albums chart of Australia. It also won triple j's J Award for Australian album of the year. Their sophomore record, Go Farther in Lightness, was the first to top that chart, going to No. 1 in 2017.
