Meghan Markle Offered UK Acting Role as Sussex Family Prepares to Return to Britain

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has been offered an acting role in the UK, according to HELLO! magazine, a development that coincides with plans for the Sussex family to return to Britain later this month.

Meghan and Prince Harry are set to arrive with their children, Prince Archie, aged seven, and Princess Lilibet, aged five. HELLO! reports the children are already enrolled in schools. The family plans to live in a non-royal residence outside London rather than returning to a royal household property.

The BBC reported on 20 August that Meghan could return to acting once back in the UK. HELLO! published its story the following day, naming the UK role offer and noting that some outlets suggest the acting opportunity is a motivation behind the family's relocation, though further details remain unconfirmed. The BBC also reported that there are currently no plans for either Harry or Meghan to resume their roles as working royals — the family members who carry out official duties on behalf of the monarch.

King Charles was informed of the move on a Sunday and, HELLO! reports, welcomes the opportunity to spend more time with the Sussex family.

For Meghan, the offer marks a potential return to a profession she stepped away from in 2017. Following her engagement to Harry in November that year, she confirmed she was giving up acting, telling the BBC it marked the start of a "new chapter." She married Harry in May 2018. In 2022, she told Variety she was done with acting, saying: "No. I'm done," and "never say never, but my intention is to absolutely not."

She has since made a cameo as herself in the Amazon MGM Studios comedy Close Personal Friends, which stars Lily Collins, Brie Larson, Jack Quaid and Henry Golding and is still in production, according to Yahoo Entertainment and Vogue. That appearance, reported in November 2025, would be her first screen credit in nearly a decade.

Meghan's best-known role was paralegal Rachel Zane in the US legal drama Suits, which ran from 2011. She also appeared in Hallmark television films and the movies Horrible Bosses and Remember Me. When Suits announced its ninth season would be its last in 2019, fans speculated she might reprise the Zane role; she did not.

Prince Harry's security arrangements in the UK remain unresolved. He has been in a protracted legal battle with the Home Office over the level of protection he receives after it changed when he stepped back as a working royal in 2020. At the end of June, Harry was still waiting for a review by the Risk Management Board, part of the process by which Ravec — the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures, the body that sets security provisions for royals and public figures — rules on his security requirements. Prime Minister Andy Burnham has declined to discuss the Sussexes' UK security arrangements, describing the funding as a "private matter."

What makes this stand out is the collision of two separate tracks: a household relocation involving school-age children and a monarch's diary, and a professional offer that would put a former senior royal back on a film set in the country she left in 2020. Neither track depends on the other to be newsworthy. Together, they frame a return that is both domestic and professional — and one in which the institutional questions, from royal status to security funding, remain open.
