New photographs have emerged of Prince William and Kate Middleton at Balmoral, the royal family's Scottish estate, showing them alongside King Charles, Queen Camilla and other senior royals during their annual summer break. The images, credited to GaffPhotos.com and published on 22 August 2026, capture the family leaving the residence in Aberdeenshire (HELLO!).

The photographs show a sizeable family group. King Charles and Queen Camilla were pictured alongside Princess Anne, Zara Tindall, Mike Tindall, Prince Edward and James, Earl of Wessex. Prince William, 44, wore a chequered shirt and burgundy jumper. Princess Anne opted for a navy and green weatherproof jacket and matching flat cap.

The Waleses arrived at Balmoral with their children on 1 August 2026, according to People and Town & Country (People). Their arrival came the day after news broke that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle plan to move back to the UK (Town & Country). HELLO! noted that the Waleses traditionally visit Balmoral each summer, though the length of their stay has not been confirmed (HELLO!).

The timing has drawn attention because of the Harry and Meghan relocation. The King was told on Sunday about the couple's move, HELLO! reported, while the news became public on Wednesday. HELLO! reported that King Charles "welcomes the opportunity to see more of Prince Harry and his family in a private and personal capacity" and that their roles within the royal family would remain unaffected by the move (HELLO!).

The reaction from William and Kate may be less warm. HELLO!'s Royal Editor Emily Nash, speaking on the outlet's A Right Royal Podcast, suggested that the Prince and Princess of Wales are likely "not delighted" about Prince Harry's imminent return to the UK. HELLO! separately reported that Prince William is "not delighted" that his brother made a "U-turn decision" to move back (HELLO!). These characterisations are attributed to HELLO! and its Royal Editor; no on-the-record statement from Kensington Palace has been published.

PA Media reported that the royal family gathered at Balmoral for their summer break following the announcement of Harry and Meghan's move back to the UK (PA Media). Balmoral has long been the royal family's summer retreat, and tensions between the brothers are well documented. In his 2023 memoir Spare, Prince Harry wrote that King Charles singled him out for an invitation to Balmoral and asked Meghan not to come (HELLO!).

For now, the images from the estate show a family together at the place they return to each summer. What happens when the summer break ends and the diaries fill again is, on the public record, still unstated.
