Spider-Man: Brand New Day is on the verge of knocking Titanic out of the all-time global box-office top five, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Marvel sequel earned an estimated $39 million domestically and $109 million globally over the weekend of 23 August, pushing its totals to $854.9 million domestic and $2.22 billion worldwide.
It now sits roughly $44 million behind James Cameron's 1997 film Titanic on the all-time global chart. Given its current pace, the gap could close within days.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has held the No. 1 position at the box office for multiple weekends, fending off newcomers Insidious: Out of the Further and the Jason Statham action film Mutiny, per The Hollywood Reporter. In its third weekend it grossed $100.1 million across 4,539 North American theatres, a 51% drop from the prior frame, bringing its domestic total at that point to $815.9 million, according to Deadline.
The film opened on 31 July with a domestic gross of $360,091,572, per Box Office Mojo. Its opening Friday alone pulled $169,843,039 from 4,487 theatres, an average of $37,852 per location. It crossed the $2 billion global mark faster than any film except one, becoming the second-fastest ever to reach that milestone, per Deadline.
The all-time global chart makes for crowded company at the top. Avatar leads with $2.9 billion in lifetime grosses including re-releases. Avengers: Endgame sits second at $2.79 billion and is set for a re-release on 25 September. Avatar: The Way of Water holds third at $2.33 billion, followed by Ne Zha 2 at $2.27 billion and Titanic at roughly $2.26 billion. Titanic's own tally includes a $350 million re-release in 2012.
Brand New Day is only about $50 million behind Ne Zha 2, meaning it could leap from No. 6 to No. 4 on the all-time chart within the coming week. Domestic, it trails only Avengers: Endgame and is expected to become the No. 2 domestic film of all time, per The Hollywood Reporter.
There is precedent for the moment of passing. When Avengers: Endgame overtook Titanic in 2019, James Cameron and his Lightstorm production company posted a congratulatory image on social media — a gesture of sportsmanship between the two highest-grossing franchises in cinema.
Internationally, Brand New Day has grossed $1,365,000,000, representing 61.5% of its worldwide total, per Box Office Mojo. The domestic share — the United States and Canada — accounts for the remaining 38.5%, or $854,901,026, according to The Numbers.
Within the Spider-Man franchise itself, Brand New Day already leads the pack. Its domestic gross of $854,901,026 tops Spider-Man: No Way Home's $804,793,477, per Box Office Mojo. The original 2002 Spider-Man sits at $403,706,375, and Far From Home at $390,532,085.
Rounding out the all-time global top 10 beyond the top five are Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Avengers: Infinity War, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Zootopia 2, per The Hollywood Reporter. Brand New Day is the No. 1 worldwide film of 2026, per Box Office Mojo.
All it needs now is one more strong week.
