Sony Revives 'Only on PS5' Exclusivity Language in New Advert

Sony has released a new "Only on PS5" advert that leans hard into console exclusivity, stamping the phrase "PlayStation 5 exclusive" across footage of Marvel's Wolverine, Saros, Gran Turismo 7, God of War Laufey, Astro Bot, and Ghost of Yōtei. The narrator declares: "These moments don't happen anywhere else, only on PS5." The spot is part of Sony's broader "It happens on PS5" marketing campaign. (Push Square, VGC)
The language is notable because most of these games were never previously marketed as exclusives. As ResetEra user Red Kong observed, none of the featured titles carried "only on PlayStation" or "exclusive" branding in earlier promotional material — except Gran Turismo 7, which was originally announced as a PS5 exclusive before receiving a PlayStation 4 version in 2022. None of the games in the advert have been ported to PC or have announced PC ports. That detail matters because the advert lands months after a shift in Sony's publishing strategy became public. On March 4, 2026, Bloomberg reported that Sony was pulling back from its plan to release PlayStation games on PC, with future single-player titles set to become PS5 exclusives. (Bloomberg)
Sony appeared to corroborate that report by removing all mention of bringing its first-party titles to PC from an annual business report. Then, in May, PlayStation Studios CEO Hermen Hulst reportedly told staff that single-player games such as Ghost of Yōtei, Saros, and Marvel's Wolverine would not come to PC going forward. TechPowerUp further reported in May that players would see fewer single-player games arrive on PC, citing an insider. (VGC, TechPowerUp)
For context, Sony had spent the past several years bringing former PS5 exclusives — titles like God of War Ragnarök and Spider-Man 2 — to PC, widening the audience for its biggest games beyond the console. That strategy now appears to be narrowing again. The new advert makes the messaging explicit: if you want to play these games, Sony wants you to do it on a PS5.
Second-party titles — games published by third-party studios but tied to PlayStation by exclusivity deals — received the same treatment. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Phantom Blade 0 were also advertised as PlayStation 5 exclusives in the same campaign. (VGC)
For players who already own a PS5, the advert is a reminder of what is coming. For those who had been waiting on PC releases, it is a signal that the wait may not end.
