Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026: Witcher 3's Final Expansion Gets Its Full Reveal
Geoff Keighley hosts Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 tonight, August 25, with CD Projekt RED's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past lined up for its first proper look.
The main show begins at 7pm BST (8pm CEST / 2pm EDT / 11am PDT), with a 30-minute pre-show starting earlier Eurogamer. The event is held in person at Koelnmesse, Hall 1 in Cologne, in front of thousands of fans Gamescom. Admission is via Confex in the left-hand area of the foyer Gamescom. Opening Night Live serves as the traditional curtain-raiser for Gamescom itself, which runs from 26 to 30 August across the Cologne exhibition grounds Gamescom.
The showcase features new game announcements, trailer and gameplay reveals, and developer talks Gamescom. But for many watching, the headline act is the return of Geralt of Rivia.
Songs of the Past is the third expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CD Projekt RED's open-world role-playing game that originally launched in 2015. The Polish studio announced the expansion in May 2026 CD Projekt RED, and it is described as the final DLC for the game CD Projekt RED, via Instagram. It returns players to the role of the legendary monster slayer Geralt CD Projekt RED.
A full reveal of Songs of the Past was set for tonight's Opening Night Live, with the official Gamescom website promoting a glimpse during the show Gamescom. The expansion is scheduled to launch in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC CD Projekt RED.
That means tonight is the first time the public gets a real look at what the developer has been building inside one of the most celebrated RPGs of the past decade — a game that has sold over 50 million copies and received two major expansions already. A third, billed as the last, carries a particular weight for a fanbase that has followed Geralt's story across books, games, and a Netflix series.
Gamescom, Europe's largest games trade fair, draws hundreds of thousands of visitors to Cologne each year. Opening Night Live is its showcase centrepiece — a stage for reveals that set the conversation for the rest of the week and well beyond it.
The show streams live online for those not in the hall. For Witcher fans especially, the clock starts at 7pm BST.
