Dan Stevens Cast as RoboCop in Prime Video's Upcoming Series
Dan Stevens will play Alex Murphy — the fallen officer turned cybernetic law enforcer — in Prime Video's upcoming RoboCop series, Deadline reported on 25 August 2026.
The eight-episode series is written by Peter Ocko, who also serves as showrunner. Ocko's prior credits include Lodge 49 and Pushing Daisies, as Entertainment Weekly noted. Amazon MGM Studios officially greenlit the project in July 2026, after roughly two years in development.
In the series, a giant tech conglomerate convinces a city to put a powerful robot on its police force. The robot is implanted with the consciousness of a fallen officer, Alex Murphy. James Wan, one of the executive producers, said the show takes a contemporary look at questions about technology, identity, and who corporations really serve. Deadline
The original RoboCop film, directed by Paul Verhoeven, arrived in 1987 with Peter Weller in the title role. Weller returned for RoboCop 2 (1990). Robert Burke took over for RoboCop 3 (1993), and Joel Kinnaman led the 2014 remake. The property was among the first batch of MGM titles identified for series development after Amazon acquired the studio in 2022, as Deadline reported in April 2023.
Ocko executive produces alongside Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett through Blumhouse Atomic Monster — the combined horror studio formed by Jason Blum and James Wan. Danielle Bozzone serves as co-executive producer. Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner, the co-writers of the original 1987 film, are also on board as executive producers.
Peter Friedlander, Amazon MGM Studios' Head of Global TV, praised Ocko's vision for the series at the time of the pickup.
Stevens arrives with a packed schedule. He recently wrapped production on a series adaptation of John le Carré's Legacy of Spies for Amazon MGM Studios' platform MGM+ and the BBC. He is currently in production on the second season of Paramount+'s Dexter: Resurrection, in which he plays Owen Stark, also known as the Five Borough Killer.
Stevens also stars in the horror limited anthology series The Terror: The Devil in Silver, which debuted on AMC+ and Shudder and is set for a linear release on AMC in September. His film slate includes Onslaught, reuniting him for a third time with director Adam Wingard, released by A24 on 4 September; Babies, directed by Lauren Miller Rogan, premiering at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival; and Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, in which he reprises his role as Trapper, set for a 2027 release.
His series credits span Netflix's Zero Day opposite Robert De Niro, ITV and Masterpiece's Downton Abbey, and the Hulu animated comedy Solar Opposites. He also lent his voice to the Oscar-winning animated film The Boy and the Heron.
No premiere date for the RoboCop series has been announced.
