Dan Stevens Cast as RoboCop in Amazon Prime Video Series
Dan Stevens will play the title role in Amazon Prime Video's upcoming RoboCop television series, which has received an eight-episode order — a straight-to-series commitment, meaning no pilot episode is shot first before the full season is greenlit. Variety
The project has been in development since Amazon acquired MGM in 2022, and was formally announced at Amazon Prime Video in July 2026. Amazon MGM Studios will produce.
According to the official logline, a giant tech conglomerate convinces the city to place a powerful robot on its police force — a robot implanted with the consciousness of a beloved, fallen officer, played by Stevens. Variety
Peter Ocko serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner — the person who oversees the writers' room and holds final creative authority on day-to-day production. The executive producer roster includes James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett via Blumhouse Atomic Monster, the genre-focused production company formed by the merger of Blumhouse and Atomic Monster. Danielle Bozzone of Blumhouse Atomic Monster will co-executive produce and oversee the series for the company.
Michael Miner and Ed Neumeier, who co-created and co-wrote the original 1987 RoboCop film, return as executive producers. The franchise began with that film, starring Peter Weller as Alex Murphy, the officer turned half man, half machine. Nancy Allen co-starred as Officer Anne Lewis across all three original films. A 2014 reboot starred Joel Kinnaman in the lead role.
The property has a long television history as well. There have been four RoboCop TV shows to date — two animated and two live-action. Variety
Stevens is known for his roles in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), Free Guy (2021), and Extraction (2020). IMDb His casting puts a known genre presence at the centre of a series that Amazon has been building toward for roughly four years.
