Adèle Exarchopoulos Joins Park Chan-wook's Western 'The Brigands of Rattlecreek' for Warner Bros.
Adèle Exarchopoulos has been cast in Park Chan-wook's Western The Brigands of Rattlecreek, joining a formidable ensemble at Warner Bros. According to Deadline, she will play the wife of Austin Butler's character in a substantial role.
The film follows a sheriff and a doctor who hunt down bandits terrorising a small town under the cover of a torrential thunderstorm. Park directs from a script by S. Craig Zahler — the writer behind Bone Tomahawk, a 2015 Westernhorror cult favourite — on which Park has completed revisions. Bradley Fischer produces alongside Park for Moho Film, with executive producers including Back Jisun Back, Mike Medavoy, Georgia Kacandes and Patrick Wachsberger.
The previously announced cast reads like a festival marquee: Austin Butler, Matthew McConaughey, Pedro Pascal and Tang Wei. Warner Bros. will release the film in the U.S. and Canada (domestic, the combined North American market).
The project was unveiled around the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, when Deadline first reported the lineup. Weeks later, Variety reported that Warner Bros.' label Clockwork was closing in on a deal; Film Stories placed that acquisition figure at roughly $15 million. Clockwork is a Warner Bros. distribution banner, meaning the film lands inside the studio's release apparatus rather than at an outside buyer.
For Exarchopoulos, the casting caps a busy fortnight. Two weeks ago she was announced opposite Zoë Kravitz in a mystery film for Apple, directed by Megan Park (My Old Ass) — a project Deadline noted marks her first lead role in an American studio film. The French actor became Cannes's youngest Palme d'Or winner for Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013), sharing the prize with director Abdellatif Kechiche and co-star Léa Seydoux. She also has two French films awaiting release: Garance (Another Day) on 23 September and Orange-Flavoured Wedding (Mariage au goût d'orange) on 9 December.
What stands out here is the assembly itself. Park Chan-wook — the South Korean director of Oldboy and Decision to Leave — working from a Zahler script, with a cast that now spans Hollywood A-listers, a Cannes-winning French actor and one of Asia's most celebrated performers in Tang Wei. Westerns have cycled in and out of favour with studios for years; Warner Bros. is betting that this particular combination of director, genre and cast can justify a wide North American release.
