Hoyoverse Reveals Nodusfall, a Multiplayer Souls-Like, at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026

Hoyoverse — the studio behind Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero — has revealed Nodusfall, a multiplayer souls-like game, during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 in Cologne, Germany, on 25 August 2026.
A "souls-like" is a genre built on deliberate, punishing combat and atmospheric world design, popularised by Japanese developer FromSoftware. Nodusfall takes that formula and makes it social: players take on the roles of "Weavers," who band together to battle mythic beings in a world where, as the reveal described it, "divine authority has crumbled and order has collapsed" (GameSpot).
The reveal trailer drew heavy visual inspiration from FromSoftware's Elden Ring, the 2022 fantasy title that sold over 25 million copies and cemented the souls-like genre as a mainstream draw. The parallels in Nodusfall's footage — sweeping, ruined landscapes armoured combatants, and a brooding mythological tone — were immediate and unmistakable.
What makes the reveal notable is the studio behind it. Hoyoverse built its name on free-to-play, gacha-driven titles like Genshin Impact, a game that has reportedly earned billions in revenue since its 2020 launch. Nodusfall signals a shift in posture: a premium, multiplayer action game in a genre the studio has not previously touched, aimed at an audience that may know FromSoftware's catalogue far better than Hoyoverse's.
No release date or platforms were announced. Whether Nodusfall targets PC, consoles, mobile, or all of the above remains unconfirmed, and the publisher did not offer a launch window during the showcase.
For players, the appeal is straightforward: a co-op souls-like from a studio with the resources to match the ambition. For the industry, it is another data point in the genre's expansion beyond its originators — and a signal that one of mobile gaming's most successful companies is reaching for a different audience entirely.
