Mega Man: Dual Override resurfaces at Gamescom with a new trailer, a new Robot Master, and a 2027 release window

Capcom showed a new trailer for Mega Man: Dual Override at Gamescom Opening Night Live on 25 August 2026, giving fans their closest look yet at how the Blue Bomber's next adventure actually plays. The game, first revealed at The Game Awards 2025 in December with an initial gameplay trailer, is planned for a 2027 launch across Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S (GameSpot, IGN).
Capcom describes Dual Override as a brand-new entry in the classic action-platforming Mega Man series — the side-scrolling, jump-and-shoot formula the franchise has used since its 1987 debut (IGN).
The Gamescom trailer gave the clearest picture of what that formula looks like in motion. Mega Man is shown using special equipment that lets him dash and hover, adding mobility options beyond the series' usual run-and-jump toolkit. His armour takes on a stylised look, with glowing panels that appear to open up across his robotic plating — a visual flourish that signals new offensive capabilities. One sequence shows a rapid-charged fire power filling the screen with blasts and taking down robot enemies almost instantly (GameSpot).
The trailer also teased a new Robot Master — the themed boss characters Mega Man defeats to claim their weapons — named Twinkle Girl. She would be only the second female Robot Master in the series' history, following Splash Woman from Mega Man 9, released in 2008 (GameSpot).
Capcom used the moment to cross over with another of its titles. The announcement included Mega Man and Roll skins — cosmetic character outfits — for Hugh and Diana in Pragmata, the sci-fi action game Capcom has been developing for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows (GameSpot).
Dual Override was first unveiled at The Game Awards 2025 on 11 December, where Capcom showed its first gameplay trailer and confirmed a 2027 launch window. IGN's game page currently lists the release as "TBA 2027," and Capcom's official website for the game confirms the 2027 target (IGN, Capcom).
For fans, the Gamescom showing answered a question that has lingered since December's reveal: how the classic series evolves without losing its identity. The dash, the hover, the charged firepower, and a roster that continues to break its own conventions — these are the details that suggest Capcom is building on the formula rather than simply repeating it. With a 2027 release still ahead, there is time for more reveals before launch.
