Sky Renews Crime Drama 'Under Salt Marsh' for Season 2, with Rafe Spall Returning

Sky has renewed its crime drama Under Salt Marsh for a second season, with Rafe Spall set to reprise his role as Detective Eric Bull. The six-episode season will move the action from the Welsh coast to a remote Scottish mining village, where a murder investigation pulls Bull closer to the truth about his own past. Production is set to film in Scotland in 2027, with the new season launching on Sky and its streaming service Now in the UK, Ireland and Italy. The renewal comes on the heels of a strong first season. Under Salt Marsh premiered on Sky Atlantic on 30 January 2026, with its first season available simultaneously on Now. The series drew a 28-day audience of 2.5 million viewers — meaning the figure counts everyone who watched within four weeks of launch — making it Sky's biggest entertainment title of the year to date and the largest Sky Original launch since Day of the Jackal. Created, written and directed by Claire Oakley, the first season was a tense, character-led crime story set on the Welsh coast. It starred Kelly Reilly, Jonathan Pryce, Naomi Yang and Harry Lawtey alongside Spall. The writing team included In-Sook Chappell, Jonathan Harbottle and Scott Graham, with Zoranna Piggott as series producer. Elwen Rowlands, Oakley and Megan Spanjian served as executive producers. Oakley had teased the possibility of a second season in a conversation with Variety back in February, months before the official greenlight landed. Sky's Managing Director of Scripted Originals Meghan Lyvers said the series had "deeply connected" with Sky audiences and called the renewal "a new chapter in the world Claire Oakley created." For fans of the show, the shift to Scotland signals a fresh setting and a new case, while Spall's Detective Bull remains the thread tying the seasons together.
