Netflix Reveals "The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth": Fincher Directs, Tarantino Writes, Pitt Returns

Netflix has revealed the title, release dates and full cast for Brad Pitt's return to the role of Cliff Booth: The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, directed by David Fincher and written by Quentin Tarantino, will premiere in IMAX on November 25, 2026 for a two-week engagement before landing on the streaming service on December 23 (Deadline).

Pitt reprises the character he introduced in 2019's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which Tarantino wrote and directed. The role earned Pitt an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. That film was a Sony theatrical release; this sequel arrives under Netflix's banner, following a teaser announcement from Netflix's own news site, Tudum, back in May (Netflix Tudum).

The new film is set in 1977, picking up with Booth eight years after the events of the original. According to an IMDb listing, the character takes on work as a Hollywood fixer — the kind of troubleshooter studios and stars call when problems need to disappear quietly (IMDb).

Joining Pitt on screen are Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Peter Weller (Deadline).

The IMAX-first strategy mirrors what Netflix has done with select prestige releases, giving a film a theatrical window — the gap between a cinema run and a streaming debut — to build word of mouth before it reaches subscribers. In this case, nearly four weeks separate the November 25 IMAX premiere from the December 23 Netflix release.

The creative lineup carries its own weight. Fincher, whose Netflix credits include Mank and The Killer, reunites with Pitt for the first time since 2008's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Tarantino, who announced The Film Critic as his final directorial effort before stepping back, here hands his screenplay to Fincher rather than directing it himself.

For fans of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, the return of Cliff Booth means a chance to spend more time with a character who stole scenes as Leonardo DiCaprio's stunt double and confidant. Pitt played him as easygoing on the surface, lethal underneath. The 1977 setting pushes the story into a different Hollywood era — disco-era Los Angeles, a town in transition.
