Netflix drops trailer for Cliff Booth sequel with Brad Pitt back in lead
Cliff Booth is back. Netflix has released a full trailer for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, as reported by Variety.
Brad Pitt returns as Booth, a Hollywood stuntman — the performer who does the falls, fights and driving stunts in place of the leading actor. The character was first introduced in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. This new film is a sequel, a second story that continues with the same character.
The release will happen in two steps. It will open in IMAX theatres on Nov. 25. IMAX means extra-large screens with tall pictures and loud, full sound. It will then start streaming on Netflix on Dec. 23, when subscribers can watch it at home.
The story is set in 1977. That places it about eight years after the late-1960s setting of the first film. The full trailer follows a one-minute teaser that Netflix put out during the Super Bowl earlier this year.
David Fincher directs the film. The screenplay was written by Quentin Tarantino, according to Netflix. Tarantino wrote and directed Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Here he serves as a producer, one of the people who oversee the production, alongside Pitt, David Heyman, Ceán Chaffin and Stacey Sher.
Leonardo DiCaprio, who played actor Rick Dalton in the first film, is not set to return. Timothy Olyphant will return as James Stacy, a performer who appeared in the earlier story. To reprise a role means to play the same character again. Several actors join as new faces playing new characters: Scott Caan, Elizabeth Debicki, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Carla Gugino, Holt McCallany and JB Tadena.
Behind the camera, Erik Messerschmidt is the director of photography. That is the person in charge of the camera work, lighting and overall look of each shot. The film was shot on location in Los Angeles, meaning it was filmed in real streets and buildings rather than only on studio sets.
What makes this stand out for viewers is the change behind the camera. The lead actor and writer are back. The director is new. The next look will come when the film reaches IMAX theatres in November.
