Ted Lasso Season 4 reaches its fourth episode on Apple TV+ today, and "Greyhounds' Day Off" sends the Lady Greyhounds to the pub — where a team-bonding exercise turns into a bar fight and, eventually, a turning point for the squad.
The episode, the fourth in a season that premiered August 5 and runs weekly through October 7, centres on a problem Ted Lasso can no longer ignore: his female footballers have split into cliques. Attackers, midfielders and defenders keep to their own. So Ted orders the team to attend Mae's reinstated pub quiz night at the Crown & Anchor, hoping the informal setting will dissolve those divisions. It does — but not the way he planned.
At the pub quiz, the Lady Greyhounds split into three teams along the same clique lines Ted wanted to break. Ted, Coach Beard and Alice form a fourth team. A group of local lads makes a fifth. The friction comes when those lads mock the women as footballers. Players from each clique band together in retaliation. The moment that crystallises the shift belongs to goalkeeper Katie "Boots" Quinn: she grabs a beer bottle despite not drinking, empties it, and smashes it into one of the hecklers' heads.

The brawl lands everyone involved in a jail cell. Zelda Southport, played by Tracey Ullman, bails them out. From there, the episode pivots back to football business: Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) and Keeley (Juno Temple) arrive fresh from a makeup session, and Higgins (Jeremy Swift) brings the results of the FA Cup draw — the Lady Greyhounds will play Chelsea at home.
Two familiar faces also surface. Dr. Sharon Fieldstone (Sarah Niles) and Trent Crimm (James Lance) appear on Trent Crimm's podcast, where Dr. Fieldstone frames the pub quiz episode as the moment the Lady Greyhounds cement themselves beyond their smaller, stress-formed groups.
Apple TV+'s official synopsis for the episode reads: "The coaches must figure out how to break up team cliques. Ted adjusts to life outside the locker room."
The cast interviewed by Deadline includes Abbie Hern, who plays striker Gemma Jay, and Faye Marsay, who stars as defender Lizzie — both part of the new women's-team ensemble introduced this season.
For viewers, "Greyhounds' Day Off" delivers the kind of set piece Ted Lasso does well: a contained, character-driven episode where comedy, tension and team dynamics collide in a single location. The pub setting keeps the cast in close quarters, and the fight scene gives several new characters a shared moment of defiance that, by Mack's account and Dr. Fieldstone's assessment, is what finally fuses them into one squad.
