ASUS has added three new 24.5-inch OLED gaming monitors and an ergonomic mouse to its ROG Ace esports lineup, announcing the expansion at Gamescom 2026 on August 25. All three new monitors share the same basics: a 24.5-inch screen with 1920 x 1080 resolution and OLED panel technology. OLED displays produce their own light at the pixel level rather than relying on a backlight, which means each pixel can turn off completely for true black. The monitors differ sharply on refresh rate, though, which is how many times per second the screen redraws the image. Higher refresh rates mean smoother motion and a competitive edge in fast-paced games. At the top of the range is the ROG Swift OLED PG259QWS Ace, a 720Hz panel with up to 1,700 nits of peak brightness and Dolby Vision support (Engadget). The second tier, the ROG Strix OLED XG259QDPG Ace, runs at 560Hz and adds ASUS's "BlackShield" film with an anti-glare coating that the company says improves perceived black levels by up to 40 percent (Engadget). The third model, the ROG Strix OLED XG259QDNS Ace, carries the same BlackShield and anti-glare treatment but drops to 360Hz and is described as the more affordable option in the lineup. The previously announced ROG Strix OLED XG259QWPG Ace, shown at Computex 2026, is a 540Hz panel that ASUS built with professional players and priced at $699 for early Q4 2026 availability. That model now sits between the XG259QDPG Ace at 560Hz and the XG259QDNS Ace at 360Hz in the broader Ace hierarchy (Engadget).

That kind of specification jump in a single quarter reflects two forces working in concert: panel manufacturers are maturing tandem OLED technology rapidly enough to sustain extreme refresh rates at the brightness levels competitive play demands, and the esports tournament circuit — anchored by events like the PGL CS2 Major — is creating a commercially viable market for hardware that would have been considered prototype-grade a year ago.

The Position Sensor feature on the PG259QWS Ace is a small but telling detail. Competitive players at LAN events routinely struggle to replicate their home monitor height and tilt on unfamiliar desks and mounts. Quantifying and displaying those values onscreen is a niche feature, but it is the kind of niche that matters when prize pools are on the line and setup time is regulated.

Looking at the pricing structure, ASUS has created a four-tier ladder for 24.5-inch OLED esports monitors. The $1,099 PG259QWS Ace carries a premium for 720Hz, the tandem-stack brightness, and the tournament partnership. The $699 XG259QWPG Ace at 540Hz offers a mid-range entry. The XG259QDPG Ace at 560Hz slots in just above that. And the XG259QDNS Ace at 360Hz, with pricing undisclosed, appears targeted at a more accessible tier, though "accessible" in the OLED esports segment still means a premium over comparable LCD panels. Whether the market sustains four distinct 24.5-inch OLED monitors at overlapping price points is a question that the Q4 launch will begin to answer.

The broader trajectory is straightforward: OLED is no longer just a premium display technology for watching movies and other content. It is being engineered specifically for the lowest-latency, highest-refresh demands of competitive gaming, and ASUS is positioning the Ace line to own that intersection. The panels are fast, bright, and purpose-built. The question that remains is whether enough competitive players and aspirational buyers will pay OLED prices for 1080p panels to sustain the investment.
