Ridley Scott Plans Third 'Alien' Prequel Centred on Michael Fassbender's David
Ridley Scott is planning a third 'Alien' prequel built around David, the malfunctioning AI android played by Michael Fassbender, according to an interview the director gave to the Los Angeles Times, reported by Variety on 26 August 2026.
Scott told the newspaper that the film would see David create a "brave new world for himself." David first appeared in 'Prometheus' (2012) as a maintenance crew member aboard the ship, then returned in 'Alien: Covenant' (2017), the sixth film in the franchise, where Fassbender reprised the role alongside returning cast members Noomi Rapace and Guy Pearce (Variety).
The character is an AI — a synthetic android — whose descent into rogue behaviour has anchored the prequel series. Scott's own view of artificial intelligence is blunt. "AIs can go off," he said.
