Aaron Guzikowski Tapped to Write New Alien Movie

Writer Aaron Guzikowski has been tapped to write a new Alien feature for 20th Century Studios and Ridley Scott, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Tapped" means chosen for the job. The film has no director yet.

Scott is producing the project through his company, Scott Free, alongside Michael Pruss. He is not directing it at this stage. Scott Aversano is overseeing the project for 20th Century Studios, the studio behind the Alien series.

The new film is not a sequel to Alien: Romulus, the 2024 release. Instead, it is said to be related to Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, the two films Scott directed in the 2010s. The link between them is the android character played by Michael Fassbender. Fassbender is not attached to the new project, which means he has not signed on.

Guzikowski is best known to many audiences as the screenwriter of the thriller Prisoners. He also created Raised by Wolves, the science-fiction drama that TNT ordered in 2018 and that later streamed on HBO Max. Scott executive-produced that series and directed its first two episodes. Guzikowski also served as an executive producer on it.

That show follows two androids who are tasked with raising human children on a mysterious planet. The creator's return to a story world that shares a director and a robot-shaped thread with the earlier films is the most concrete link.

The project is at an early stage. A writer and a producer are on board, but no director is attached, and the lead android actor has not signed on. Studios often develop projects like this for months, or longer, before a director or cast is confirmed. Any change to those plans would be news in itself.
