HBO and NFL Films Bring Back 'Hard Knocks: Offseason' for 2027, Retiring the In-Season Format

HBO and NFL Films announced on 26 August that Hard Knocks: Offseason will return for a fourth season in 2027, giving the documentary series a permanent slot in the league's quieter months — the stretch between the Super Bowl and the start of training camp, when rosters are built through the NFL Scouting Combine, free agency and the Draft. The 2027 offseason edition will do something no previous Hard Knocks season has done: chronicle an entire NFL division rather than a single franchise. Cameras will follow four teams through the combine, the free-agency period and the three-day Draft, covering the decisions that shape a roster months before a single snap. Deadline
Filming begins at the end of the 2026 NFL season. The series will debut in 2027 on HBO and stream on HBO Max. Deadline
The offseason format replaces the In-Season edition of Hard Knocks, which had aired during the latter part of the NFL schedule since 2021. Ross Ketover, senior executive at NFL Films, welcomed the shift to the offseason in remarks reported by Deadline. The Offseason format itself is not new: it debuted in 2024 with the New York Giants and earned a Sports Emmy Award nomination. Deadline
Meanwhile, Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Seattle Seahawks is currently airing on HBO, with new episodes dropping Tuesdays through 1 September. The Seahawks are the reigning Super Bowl champions, having defeated the New England Patriots in the title game. The Patriots will take their own turn under the Hard Knocks spotlight in the summer of 2027 training-camp edition. Deadline Yahoo Sports ESPN
For fans, the reshuffle means a different rhythm. Instead of following one team through the grind of midseason, the cameras will capture the league's most volatile stretch — when general managers trade, cut and sign the players who decide whether a season lives or dies. The division-wide scope widens the lens from one locker room to four, and from game plans to the front-office chess that precedes them.
