Philadelphia's Cycling Classic Returns After a Decade — The Wall Awaits
After ten years away, the Philadelphia International Cycling Classic rolls again on Sunday, August 30, 2026 — and the Manayunk Wall is waiting.
The race ran from 1985 to 2016, built a fierce reputation on a 14.4-mile loop starting on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, sweeping past the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and climbing into the Manayunk neighbourhood. There, a short, vicious ramp averages a 17% gradient. Manayunk officially named it the "Manayunk Wall" in 2002, and the title has stuck ever since. The men complete eight laps for 124 miles (200 km); the women cover 62 miles (100 km). Race day begins at 8:30 a.m., with the men's UCI event starting at noon and an expected finish around 4:45 p.m. City of Philadelphia.
The revived event carries a UCI 1.1 classification — two tiers below the WorldTour, the sport's top division. Robin Morton, a long-time figure in American race organisation, serves as race director. The event is presented by AmeriGas City of Philadelphia.
Equal prize money has been a feature of this event since at least 2013. The 2026 edition offers $75,000 for each race — double the UCI minimum for this level The Guardian. Lisa Nutter, a world champion track cyclist married to Philadelphia's mayor, originally pushed for parity between the men's and women's purses. The women's race dates to 1994, when it was added as the Liberty Classic.
