Yung Filly Allowed to Return to Britain While Awaiting Australian Retrial on Rape Charges

British rapper and social media personality Yung Filly has been granted permission to return to London while he awaits a retrial in Australia on three rape charges, a District Court of Western Australia judge ruled on Thursday.

Judge Linda Black ruled that Yung Filly — whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos — can fly back to Britain under revised bail conditions that require him to leave Australia by Aug. 31 and remain there until he returns to Perth for his second trial, ABC News reported.

The 31-year-old Colombian-born entertainer faced six counts of rape in his Western Australia trial, all stemming from an incident in a Perth hotel room in September 2024. A jury acquitted him on three of those counts but could not reach a verdict on the remaining three, leaving the court to declare a hung jury on those charges. Prosecutors confirmed they would retry him on the three unresolved rape counts.

The jury did convict Yung Filly on two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm — a charge covering physical attacks that cause injury — related to the same incident. He will not be sentenced on those convictions until after the second jury reaches verdicts on the outstanding rape charges. Each assault conviction carries a potential maximum sentence of five years in prison, and each rape conviction carries a potential maximum of 14 years.

Judge Black said the retrial would be expedited and likely take place in 2027, though she acknowledged a delay was possible. Under the bail conditions, Yung Filly must return to Australia 10 days before the retrial begins and surrender his passport within 24 hours of arriving back in Britain. He is also barred from contacting the alleged victim or a key prosecution witness, and from publicly commenting on the case.

The trial began in a Perth court on July 20, 2026. Prosecutors alleged that a young woman who had what the court heard was a "celebrity crush" on Yung Filly initially agreed to have sex with him but withdrew her consent because she feared for her safety, ABC News Australia reported. Yung Filly testified in his own defense, telling the court that "the vibes were good" between himself and the woman, BBC News reported.

The incident followed a performance in Perth during an Australian tour. Yung Filly had also performed in Sydney and Melbourne before the alleged assault. He was arrested in Brisbane, where the tour was to end, several days after the incident.

Yung Filly built his following as a YouTuber and social media personality in Britain before launching a music career as a rapper. The case has drawn attention across both the UK and Australia, where fans and the public have followed proceedings since his arrest in 2024.

The July 31 verdicts were reported across multiple outlets, including BBC News, The Guardian, and ABC News Australia, all confirming the same outcome: acquittal on three rape counts, conviction on two assault counts, and a hung jury on the remaining three rape charges. On Aug. 21, prosecutors formally announced the retrial, and six days later, Judge Black set the terms under which Yung Filly can wait for that retrial at home in London.
