Starz Drops 'Outlander: Blood of My Blood' Season 2 Trailer as Jacobite War Tears Two Couples Apart
Starz has released the trailer for the second season of Outlander: Blood of My Blood, and the 18th-century Scottish Highlands are about to get a lot more dangerous. The new season premieres 18 September on Starz, with episodes streaming weekly on Fridays — a date fans already mark on the calendar as World Outlander Day (Variety, Starz Facebook).
The Jacobite Uprising — the 1715 Rising that sought to restore the exiled Stuart monarchy to the British throne — splits the Highlands and separates both lead couples at the heart of the prequel series (Variety).
For Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) and his cousin Murtagh (Rory Alexander), the call to arms means returning to Castle Leoch — sorry, Castle Leathers — where Brian must pledge to fight alongside his father, the scheming Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat, played by Tony Curran. Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) also heads home, to Castle Leoch, only to find her brothers Colum (Séamus McLean Ross) and Dougal (Sam Retford) locked in a feud over how the clan should answer the call to arms (Variety).
The second couple faces an even stranger rift. Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine) and Julia Beauchamp (Hermione Corfield) — Claire's parents, for viewers of the original Outlander — are reunited after a time-travel journey that carried them across centuries. Their plan to return to their own time goes wrong, and the pair are separated once more (Variety).
Matthew B. Roberts serves as showrunner and executive produces alongside Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, Toni Graphia, Luke Schelhaas, Michael Wilson, Jim Kohlberg and Luke Parker Bowles. Sony Pictures Television produces the series, which is based on Diana Gabaldon's best-selling Outlander novels — a book franchise that has sold an estimated 50 million copies worldwide (Variety).
Rounding out the cast, Conor MacNeill plays Ned Gowan, the clan's legal advisor and a familiar figure to Outlander readers (Variety).
For fans, the trailer confirms that the prequel's sophomore run leans hard into the political and military upheaval that defined the era. Two love stories, one set in the Highlands and one spanning centuries, are both pushed to breaking point by a war neither couple chose.
