GTA 6's Side Activities Range from Petting Dogs to Backyard Wrestling and Doomscrolling
Rockstar Games released an extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI on 27th August, and the footage — alongside a separate preview from IGN — has given players their clearest picture yet of what the game's open world will offer beyond its main story. Eurogamer compiled a running list of side activities spotted in the material, and it ranges from the serene to the absurd.
Players can pet or scold dogs, feed stray animals, and study wildlife in what Eurogamer describes as a Red Dead Redemption 2-like collecting mechanic. On the more physical end, the list includes backyard wrestling, street races, riding electric scooters, airboating across swamps, scuba diving in the ocean, kayaking, mini golf, and pool.
Some activities pull from the quieter corners of daily life. Players can lift weights to build muscle, work out with their partner, doomscroll social media, and get in trouble for spending too long eavesdropping on random NPCs — the non-player characters who populate the game's world. Several activities can be done as a couple, including going clothes shopping with your partner and lounging at a safehouse drinking beers.
The two protagonists, a romantic pair, are central to how some of these systems work. Eurogamer reports that the romance between them may affect gameplay, and that the game includes a Criminal Profiles system described as a spiritual successor to Red Dead Redemption 2's Honor system — a mechanic that tracked the player's moral choices and shaped how the world reacted to them.
For fans of open-world games, the breadth of activities is the signal here. Rockstar's worlds have long been defined by density — not just story missions but the ambient texture of things to do between them. The extended look suggests GTA 6 is leaning hard into that tradition, with everything from swamp airboats to weightlifting to quietly scrolling a phone.
