Netflix Drops First Trailer for 'Unabomber,' Starring Jacob Tremblay as Ted Kaczynski
Netflix has released the first trailer for Unabomber, a feature film starring Jacob Tremblay as Ted Kaczynski — the man who mailed bombs across America for nearly two decades before his 1996 arrest. The film arrives on the streaming service on September 25, 2026 (Deadline).
Tremblay, still best known to many audiences as the child in Room, takes on a starkly different role: portraying Kaczynski's transformation from a 16-year-old Harvard student into the domestic terrorist the FBI dubbed the Unabomber. The trailer, which dropped on August 28, teases that trajectory — from academic prodigy to Montana recluse to the target of a nationwide manhunt (Deadline).
The cast surrounding him is layered. Russell Crowe plays Professor Henry Murray, the Harvard psychologist whose controversial experiments on Kaczynski have long been discussed as a possible factor in his radicalisation. Shailene Woodley plays FBI agent Joanne Miller. Rounding out the ensemble are Annabelle Wallis, Alexander Ludwig, Steven Ogg and Marc Menchaca (Deadline).
Januz Metz, the Danish director whose credits include the war documentary Armadillo, directed from a script by Sam Chalsen and Nelson Greaves. Sophie Cassidy produces for 2.0 Entertainment, with Greaves, Donald J. Lee and Chalsen executive producing in association with MRC — the independent studio behind titles including Saltburn and Tales of the Walking Dead (Deadline).
The September 25 release date was first confirmed by Netflix's own editorial site, Tudum, in late July (Netflix Tudum). At the time, the cast and director were announced but no footage had been shown. The trailer is the public's first look at the film.
For a streaming platform that has invested heavily in true-crime drama — from Mindhunter to Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story — Unabomber sits in familiar territory. What sets it apart is the casting of Tremblay, now 19, in a lead role that asks him to carry the interior life of one of America's most studied criminals.
