Fernando Lindez has landed his first English-language acting role as the romantic lead in The Last Sunrise, a Prime Video film adaptation of Anna Todd's 2025 bestseller, set on the island of Mallorca, Spain (The Hollywood Reporter).

Lindez plays Julián, a local man in Mallorca who falls for Oriah "Ry" Pera, a 22-year-old living with chronic illnesses including tuberous sclerosis and epilepsy, played by Maia Reficco. Eva Longoria stars as Ry's mother. The cast also includes Andrés Velencoso and Chloé Sweetlove, who joined the production earlier (The Hollywood Reporter).

Todd, whose After novel series became a global film franchise, wanted the chronic-illness storyline in The Last Sunrise to sit alongside romance and a happy ending rather than crowding either out (Yahoo News). Lindez has called the film the most romantic he has made, noting that Julián avoids the "bad guy" archetype he has played before (The Hollywood Reporter).

The path to the role began through a chance encounter. Lindez was promoting another Prime Video project when he crossed paths with producers Lena Rocklin and Jennifer Gibgot, who urged him to audition. He did, and won the part.

Lindez, now 26, started acting at 16, attending theatre school before landing the role of Alejandro in Skam España, the Spanish adaptation of the Norwegian teen drama. He appeared in 30 episodes across the run, which ended in 2020. The series also starred Nicole Wallace and Gabriel Guevara, who went on to lead Prime Video's hit My Fault — a connection that places Lindez within a cluster of Spanish-language talent the streamer has been building into its global slate.

After Skam España, Lindez joined the main cast of the Netflix thriller series Elite as Joel, and in 2023 starred in the Spanish thriller Escándalo, relato de una obsesión. His film work includes the romantic drama Tell Me Softly (Dímelo bajito).

Before acting, Lindez began modelling at 17 and walked runways in Milan, Paris and New York. That fashion-world visibility has run parallel to a screen career built almost entirely in Spanish until now.

For Prime Video, The Last Sunrise extends a strategy that has paid off with Spanish-language romance and YA adaptations — My Fault and its sequels drew large global audiences for the streamer, and Todd's After franchise did the same theatrically before landing on streaming. A Mallorca-set romance with an established fan-fiction-to-bestseller author behind it fits the template closely.

What sets this film apart is its subject matter. Chronic illness rarely sits at the centre of a romance adaptation, and Todd's insistence on a happy ending keeps the story within the genre her readers expect while broadening the ground it covers.

No release date for The Last Sunrise has been announced.
