Lil Nas X has announced the death of his mother, Tameka Hill, in a social media post on Saturday, 29 August 2026. The rapper shared throwback photographs on Instagram alongside the tribute: "RIP TO THE BADDEST EVER! LOVE U FOREVER MOMMY. this one's gonna hurt." Billboard and Page Six both reported the news on 29 August.

Hill's age and cause of death were unknown at press time, according to Billboard.

The loss comes during a difficult period for the artist, born Montero Hill. In mid-June, he revealed on Instagram that he had spent several months in rehab and now had both a therapist and a psychiatrist. He has spoken about being diagnosed with bipolar disorder and entering rehab for mental health support. Page Six noted that he was mourning his mother amid a sobriety journey.

Lil Nas X had been briefly hospitalised in Los Angeles following an emergency response incident late on 2 August 2026, according to a post on his Instagram account.

Just before the news of his mother's passing, he had celebrated what he called his "10,000th day alive" in a social media video — a milestone that would have fallen in late August.

The relationship between Lil Nas X and his mother had been a thread in his public life for years. In 2020, he revealed that Hill struggled with addiction, a disclosure that placed his own mental health journey in a family context that readers were already partially familiar with.

In August 2025, Lil Nas X was charged with four felonies after allegedly attacking police officers while walking naked through the streets of Los Angeles. Those charges and the events surrounding them remain part of the public record.

For now, the tribute is the only statement he has made about his mother's death. No memorial details have been shared.
