Sandra Bullock Teases Olivia Rodrigo and Stevie Nicks for Practical Magic 2 After Their Festival Duet

Sandra Bullock has set the internet alight with a single Instagram Story suggesting that Olivia Rodrigo and Stevie Nicks could be involved in the music for Practical Magic 2. On Sunday morning, Bullock posted a video of Rodrigo and Nicks performing together, captioned: "Angel voices that are part of an upcoming film…" Variety.

The timing was no accident. The night before, Rodrigo had brought Nicks on stage at the Daisy Chain Fields music festival to perform the 1975 Fleetwood Mac classic "Landslide." According to Entertainment Weekly's Instagram, the pair danced together and closed the festival's first night with that very song. Rodrigo also surprised the crowd with appearances from Alanis Morissette and Sarah McLachlan Yahoo Entertainment. After taking the stage, Nicks looked at Rodrigo and said: "She reminds me of me, when I was her age a hundred years ago" Variety.

The connection to Practical Magic runs deeper than a casual post. Nicks recorded two songs for the original 1998 film's soundtrack, both produced by Sheryl Crow — including "If You Ever Did Believe" Variety. That film opened to lukewarm reviews but built a devoted cult following on home video, eventually spawning the sequel now weeks from release.

Practical Magic 2 arrives in theatres on 11 September, with Bullock reprising her role as Sally and Nicole Kidman returning as her sister Gillian. The story follows the Owens family of witches as they attempt to break a generational curse. Susanne Bier, the filmmaker behind Bird Box, directs from a script by Akiva Goldsman, Georgia Pritchett and Kelly Marcel. The ensemble cast includes Stockard Channing, Dianne Wiest, Cassie Bradley, Joey King, Maisie Williams and Lee Pace Variety.

Bullock's tease is the latest in a slow build for the sequel. She joined Instagram in April with a playful video referencing the original film's "midnight margaritas" scene Rolling Stone. Kidman and Bullock were first reported to be in talks for a sequel in June 2024 Rolling Stone. Entertainment Tonight has also shared a behind-the-scenes look at the two stars ahead of the film's release.

For now, though, the Rodrigo-Nicks question remains unanswered. Reps for Stevie Nicks, Olivia Rodrigo and Warner Bros. did not immediately respond to Variety's request for comment on the Practical Magic 2 music speculation Variety. Bullock's post stops short of an official announcement — but for a film whose soundtrack helped define its identity, the hint alone was enough to send fans digging out their copies of the original.
