Pokémon World Championships Head to Singapore in 2027
The Pokémon Company has announced that the 2027 Pokémon World Championships will take place in Singapore, marking the event's return to Asia for the first time since 2023.
The news broke during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Pokémon World Championships in San Francisco and was later shared on Pokémon's official Instagram account on August 30, 2026 (VGC). The 2027 event will run from August 13 to August 17 at Singapore EXPO, a large convention and exhibition venue in the east of the city-state (The Pokémon Company).
The last time the championships were held in Asia was 2023, when Yokohama, Japan played host. Since then the event has travelled through other regions before landing back in Asia-Pacific.
This year's championships, held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, drew 50,000 attendees. Championship Sunday — the final day, when the top players across multiple Pokémon games compete for world titles — was broadcast live from Chase Center, home of the NBA's Golden State Warriors, and the arena sold out.
The 2026 event also featured a new fan experience called PokémonXP. The Pokémon Company has confirmed, however, that PokémonXP will not be part of the 2027 event in Singapore (VGC). No reason was given for its exclusion.
For fans who have followed the championships over the years, Singapore marks a homecoming of sorts. The Pokémon franchise originated in Japan, and Asia has remained the heartland of its competitive community, even as the Worlds tour has rotated through North America and Europe.
Alongside the Worlds announcement, The Pokémon Company revealed a new animated movie titled Pokémon: Wild Card as part of its 30th-anniversary celebrations (The Pokémon Company). The Pokémon Company International, headquartered in Bellevue, Washington, has been rolling out anniversary announcements across the 2026 event weekend.
The Pokémon World Championships bring together top players from the trading card game and video game titles, with qualifiers held across dozens of countries throughout the year. Details on qualification, ticketing, and which game titles will be featured in the 2027 competition have not yet been announced.
