Forza Horizon 6's PS5 Launch Reportedly Pushed Out of 2026
Forza Horizon 6 will not reach PlayStation 5 in 2026, according to reports from The Verge's Tom Warren and IGN, both confirming that the planned PS5 launch has been scrubbed for the year.
The racing game from Playground Games launched on Xbox and PC on 19 May 2026. A PS5 version had been scheduled for later in the same year — the first time a new Forza Horizon title would ship on a Sony console. Official Forza Horizon channels last addressed the PS5 release in January, confirming it would arrive that year (Eurogamer).
No revised date has been given. Neither Microsoft nor Playground Games has issued a public statement on the change as of 31 August 2026.
The PS5 port carried real commercial weight. Forza Horizon 5's earlier move to PlayStation topped 5 million sales and brought in US$300 million in additional revenue for Xbox (Eurogamer). Forza Horizon 6, meanwhile, has already been described as a major success on Steam, Valve's PC storefront — though no specific sales figures have been disclosed.
The delay lands during a broader shift in Xbox's platform strategy. Asha Sharma took over as Xbox CEO in February 2026, following Phil Spencer's retirement in a wider Microsoft leadership reshuffle. Under Sharma, Xbox has signalled a mixed approach: some titles ship across PlayStation, others stay locked to Microsoft's own ecosystem.
On the exclusive side, Xbox confirmed in June that Gears of War: E-Day is an Xbox console exclusive, rejecting earlier reports of a PS5 version. Clockwork Revolution, another upcoming Xbox title, was also ruled out for Sony's platform. But the company did ship Halo: Campaign Evolved on PS5 as planned, and the Fable reboot — announced for PS5 alongside Xbox and PC — remains on track for a simultaneous multiplatform release on 23 February 2027.
For PlayStation owners holding out for Forza, the picture is straightforward but uncertain. The game is not cancelled for PS5; it is no longer expected in 2026. When it might arrive instead is unknown. Xbox has not publicly commented on the reports, and no official window has replaced the one quietly removed from this year's calendar.
The broader question is which Xbox games make the jump to PlayStation and which do not. With Forza Horizon 6's PS5 version pushed back, Fable still dated for a multiplatform launch, and Gears of War pinned as a console exclusive, the strategy appears to be settling on a title-by-title basis rather than a blanket rule — though Xbox has not formally articulated that framework.
