Zack Snyder's 'The Last Photograph' Gets Last-Minute TIFF World Premiere
Zack Snyder's next film has landed a slot at the Toronto International Film Festival — and it was added at the last minute. The Last Photograph will hold its world premiere at 6:30pm on Sunday, September 13, in the John Bassett Theatre, TIFF's new screening venue at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (Deadline).
The 2026 Toronto festival runs September 10–20 in Downtown Toronto. The Last Photograph tells the story of an ex-DEA agent seeking revenge in a South American jungle, where dangerous terrain and inner demons intermingle. Snyder directed from a screenplay by Kurt Johnstad, with Snyder holding a story-by credit. The film stars Stuart Martin and Fra Fee, both of whom worked with Snyder on the sci-fi franchise Rebel Moon (Deadline).
Snyder secured independent financing to shoot the project — meaning no studio wrote the cheque upfront, a structure that leaves the film-makers owning the upside but carrying the risk. Production spanned three countries: Colombia, Iceland and Los Angeles. In Colombia, the production service company was Jaguar Bite, run by Juan Pablo Solano and Simon Beltran. True North handled the same role in Iceland (Deadline).
The producing team reflects the film's multi-country footprint. Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller produce through Stone Quarry. Gianni Nunnari produces through Hollywood Gang Productions, with Alisha Stickney as co-producer. Executive producers include Mediaset España through its film arm Telecinco Cinema, along with William Doyle and Jaguar Bite (Deadline).
The cast extends beyond its two leads. Jackie Kay, Costanza Andrade, Carolina Henao and Marlon Moreno also appear (Variety).
TIFF 2026 has built a high-profile lineup around the late addition. The festival closes on September 19 with Villeneuve: The Rise of a Legend, a sports drama about the early career of Canadian racing icon Gilles Villeneuve. Also on the slate: I Play Rocky, a Sylvester Stallone biopic about the making of his 1976 boxing drama Rocky, directed by Peter Farrelly and starring Anthony Ippolito; and Misty Green, an industry drama written, directed by and starring Chris Rock, with a cast including Rosalind Eleazar, Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, Anna Kendrick, Topher Grace and Anthony Anderson (Variety).
For Snyder, The Last Photograph marks a turn away from the studio-backed spectacle that defined his work on Justice League and Rebel Moon at Netflix. An independently financed revenge thriller, shot across three continents and premiering at one of the autumn's most closely watched festivals, is a different kind of bet — and one the industry will be reading closely when the lights go down on September 13.
