Zack Snyder brings self-shot 'The Last Photograph' to Toronto for world premiere
Zack Snyder has brought his new film The Last Photograph to the Toronto International Film Festival for its world premiere.
The screening launched a busy festival run. Deadline published its review tied to Toronto on 14 September 2026, and Variety had confirmed the world premiere at TIFF 2026 on 31 August.
The story follows an ex-DEA operative and a war photographer. Stuart Martin plays Ethan Black, the former operative, and Fra Fee plays Joe Wallace, the photojournalist, according to Deadline. Costanza Andrade also stars, according to TIFF listings.
It is a tight cast. Snyder directed the film and shot it himself, Deadline reported. The action is set in the jungles of an unidentified Latin American country.
Snyder has described the film as a meditation on life and death reflecting trials from his own life, Deadline reported on 31 August. That personal note frames a revenge story about an ex-DEA agent, as listed by TIFF.
At the festival, TIFF programmed The Last Photograph as a Special Events selection. Listings put a screening for Sunday 13 at 6:30 PM. The world premiere screening took place at the John Bassett Theatre, TIFF's new screening venue, Variety reported.
For buyers, this means a film without a distributor on arrival. The Hollywood Reporter reported the film would pursue a buyer with a first look at TIFF: The Market, the festival's marketplace where finished and unfinished films meet distributors from different countries. The same report described the project as a thriller set in the South American mountains.
The road to Toronto was short and public. Snyder set Martin and Fee to star in August 2025 as his next film, Deadline reported at the time. By June 2026 he was in post-production, the editing and finishing stage after shooting ends, Deadline reported on 1 June.
