PlayStation's September State of Play: Wolverine, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation and More
Sony's September 2026 State of Play opened with zombies and closed with a beloved RPG franchise, packing new trailers, release dates and a surprise crossover into a back-to-back double broadcast on September 3.
The show — Sony's irregular showcase format for PlayStation news, streamed live on YouTube — kicked off with a scene from the live-action Resident Evil movie, featuring Austin Abrams as a character named Bryan navigating Raccoon City. That film is scheduled to hit theatres on September 18, according to GameSpot.
A new trailer for Marvel's Wolverine followed, ahead of the game's September 15 release. The trailer centred on Bolivar Trask's mutant-hunting program, the storyline from the comics that leads to the creation of the Sentinel robots — the towering machines long associated with the X-Men's enemies.
Ghost of Yotei, the follow-up to Sucker Punch's samurai adventure Ghost of Tsushima, received a new hardcore survival mode for single-player. Available from October 1, the mode lets players take on the roles of several Ghost of Yotei characters — and, in a crossover that caught attention, Jin Sakai, the protagonist of the original Ghost of Tsushima.
Capcom's Monster Hunter Wilds got an expansion announcement. Titled Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, the add-on will bring new monsters, gear and locations, and is scheduled for 2027.
Dune: Awakening, an open-world survival game set in the Dune universe first revealed for PlayStation 5 during the June 2026 State of Play, was confirmed for a September 22 release on the platform (PlayStation Blog).
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation closed out the first half of the broadcast. Immediately after, a new episode of State of Play Japan — a region-specific companion show hosted by voice actor Yuki Kaji — aired back-to-back with the main English-language stream, as GameSpot reported.
Sony had confirmed the double-broadcast format on August 31 via its official PlayStation Blog, announcing that both State of Play and State of Play Japan would return on September 3, 2026, with a livestream starting at 6:00 AM PT / 9:00 AM ET. The English broadcast carried the title "State of Play | September 3, 2026 [English]" on the PlayStation YouTube channel.
For PlayStation owners, the next two weeks are packed with releases. Wolverine arrives September 15, the Resident Evil film follows on September 18, and Dune: Awakening lands September 22 — a stretch that turns the showcase's trailer reel into a release calendar almost immediately.
