Sony Reveals Grand Theft Auto VI Limited-Edition DualSense Controllers
Sony has unveiled two limited-edition Grand Theft Auto VI DualSense wireless controllers for PlayStation 5, shown during a State of Play presentation on September 3, 2026 (VGC).
The controllers come in black and white versions. Both feature a palm tree motif and large Roman numerals — "VI" — pressed into the touchpad. A purple pearlescent material runs across the centre of each pad, and the surface carries a shimmering, colour-shifting finish with custom palm tree details moulded into the controller body, alongside official Grand Theft Auto VI branding (PlayStation Blog).
Sony said the two colour schemes represent the daytime and the nightlife of Vice City — the fictional, Miami-inspired setting for the upcoming game.
Both controllers launch on November 19, 2026, priced at US$84.99 / €84.99 / £74.99 / ¥12,480 (including tax). Pre-orders open on September 10 at 10:00 am local time through PlayStation Direct, Sony's first-party online store, in regions where the service is available (VGC).
The November 19 date is no coincidence. Grand Theft Auto VI itself releases the same day on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, as confirmed by Rockstar Games in November 2025 and reaffirmed by PlayStation in July 2026 (Rockstar Games). Rockstar opened pre-orders for the game on June 25, 2026 across digital storefronts and select retailers, having announced the date a week earlier on June 18 (Rockstar Games).
This is not the first GTA VI hardware tease. A June 24 PlayStation Blog post titled "Grand Theft Auto VI plays best on PS5" referenced a themed DualSense controller and a themed console (PlayStation Blog). The controllers are now official. A GTA VI-themed PS5 console has been mentioned but not yet fully revealed.
For players who already own a PS5, the limited-edition pads are a way to mark the launch without buying new hardware — though at US$84.99, they sit US$15 above the standard DualSense retail price of US$69.99. Whether the colour-shifting finish and moulded palm trees justify that premium is a question of taste, not specs. The controllers function identically to the standard model.
The bigger picture: GTA VI is the most anticipated game release in years, and Sony is positioning PlayStation as its lead console partner. Limited-edition controllers tied to a specific launch date are standard play in that relationship — Microsoft did the same with its Forza and Halo-branded Xbox controllers. What is less common is launching the hardware on the exact same day as the game itself, tying the two products to a single shopping moment.
Pre-orders go live September 10. The game arrives November 19.
