DC Studios' Supergirl Lands on HBO Max September 10, With HBO Linear Premiere Two Days Later

DC Studios' Supergirl will make its global streaming debut exclusively on HBO Max on Thursday, September 10, 2026, with a linear television premiere on HBO following two days later, on Saturday, September 12 at 8 p.m. ET. Deadline

Milly Alcock stars in the title role. The film is written by Ana Nogueira and directed by Craig Gillespie, with DC Studios co-heads Peter Safran and James Gunn serving as producers. Deadline

The staggered release — streaming first, then cable — gives HBO Max subscribers a 48-hour head start before the film reaches HBO's traditional broadcast audience. Linear television, in this context, refers to scheduled programming on a channel at a set time, as opposed to on-demand streaming.

An American Sign Language (ASL) version of Supergirl will also stream exclusively on HBO Max, arriving the same day as the linear premiere. The ASL version is performed by Catalene Sacchetti and directed by Jonaz McMillan. Deadline

For viewers, the ASL version means deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences get a dedicated interpretation of the film rather than relying solely on standard subtitles. It streams alongside the main cut on the same platform.

Alcock, previously known for her role as young Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon, takes on the DC title role as the studio continues to build out its on-screen universe under Safran and Gunn. The creative team behind Supergirl pairs Nogueira's screenplay with Gillespie's direction — a combination that pairs a writer new to the DC film slate with a director whose credits span I, Tonya and Cruella.

The September 10 streaming date and September 12 linear date were confirmed by HBO.
