Universal Music's hospitality arm to open UMusic Hotel Denmark Street in London's West End

Universal Music Group's hospitality division will open its first UK hotel on London's Denmark Street, in partnership with Outernet London's entertainment district in the West End. Music Business Worldwide
UMusic Hotel Denmark Street is due to open in the fourth quarter of 2026, according to the announcement made on Wednesday, September 2. It will be UMHL's first hotel in the UK and its second in Europe, after UMusic Hotel Madrid — the only operating UMusic hotel at the time of the deal.
UMHL — UMusic Hospitality & Lifestyle, the hospitality arm of Universal Music Group — will open and operate the hotel within Outernet's West End district, an area that draws 120 million visitors a year. The wider agreement between the two companies also covers food and beverage concepts, lounge spaces, and artist-led programming across Outernet's digital platforms.
Beyond the hotel, UMHL will lead programming and operations at The Lower Third, a venue that occupies the former site of the 12 Bar Club — a small room that once hosted Jeff Buckley, Adele and The Libertines. The Lower Third sits within Outernet's district alongside Outernet Live, a 2,000-capacity venue that Outernet describes as the largest built in central London since the 1940s.
The deal fills a space left by Chateau Denmark, a hotel that operated across 16 buildings on and around Denmark Street in partnership with Outernet. Chateau Denmark closed on August 4 after more than four years of operation.
Denmark Street carries a weight of music history that few London addresses can match. For decades it was known as "Tin Pan Alley," lined with music publishers, recording studios and instrument shops. Melody Maker was founded there in 1926. In 1952, NME's Percy Dickins compiled Britain's first sales-based singles chart from the street — the precursor to the singles charts that still track consumption today.
The UMusic Hotels brand launched in October 2020 through a joint venture between UMG and investment group Dakia U-Ventures, with Atlanta, Biloxi and Orlando named as the first three locations — including a USD $1.2 billion complex on the Mississippi coast. The Madrid hotel opened as the brand's first operating property, joined by a UMusic Shop in the city centre in June 2025. Universal Music Group UMG has since expanded the retail side, announcing UMusic Shops in New York and London in December 2025, with UMusic Shop Camden scheduled to open that month. Jordi Solé is President of UMHL. Philip O'Ferrall is CEO of Outernet. Neither company has disclosed the financial terms of the agreement.
UMHL will coordinate The Lower Third's programming with Universal Music Group's global network of artists, labels and creative partners — meaning the venue's bookings will draw on the roster of the world's largest music company. How that translates into a live schedule remains to be seen, but the infrastructure is now in place on a street that has spent a century generating exactly this kind of commerce.
