Kid Cudi Defends Kanye West Reunion: 'Everyone Deserves Some Grace'
Kid Cudi has publicly defended his decision to reunite with Kanye West on stage in Chicago, telling critics he does not care if they are disappointed in him.
The two rappers performed together for the first time in years on September 4, 2025, at Soldier Field during the second night of Ye's Chicago homecoming show. Ye brought Cudi out as a guest, telling the crowd he had surprises in store. Together they ran through three tracks: "Father Stretch My Hands, Pt. 1," "Ghost Town," and "Pursuit of Happiness (Nightmare)." The pair previously released a joint album, Kids See Ghosts, in 2019.
The reunion drew swift pushback from radio personality Peter Rosenberg, who criticised support for West on X. "This man sang Heil Hitler ONE YEAR AGO," Rosenberg wrote, later challenging Cudi directly over supporting an artist "a year after they made a song called all hail the klan" Billboard.
Cudi replied the following day, September 5, in a post on his official X account. He called Ye "my brother" and wrote: "Everyone deserves some grace when they family" Billboard. He told a critic that while he understands their frustration, he doesn't really care if they are disappointed in him over making amends with West Deadline.
The fallout between the two had been deep and public. Cudi distanced himself from West in recent years over West's erratic public rants, antisemitic remarks, and hate speech — conduct West has since apologised for. In a CBS interview in 2025, Cudi said West had said things "there was no coming back from" and that he was "done" with him, describing the broken friendship as a "sad thing" Billboard.
By July 2026, the picture had shifted. Cudi revealed in an interview that he and West were rebuilding their friendship and that Ye had given him a sincere apology Billboard. The Chicago stage reunion followed roughly two months later.
For fans who tracked the estrangement, the Soldier Field appearance closed a chapter that many assumed would stay open. Cudi's response to Rosenberg makes clear he is not asking for permission. Whether the reunion extends beyond one night or signals a renewed creative partnership — Kids See Ghosts, their 2019 joint album, remains the pair's only full collaboration to date — has not been announced.
