Paris's Halley Production Boards 'Carro Seco,' a Pétanque-Ball Thriller Pitched at Iberseries
A Paris-based production company has joined a Spanish thriller about a serial killer who murders wealthy real estate speculators with heavy metal pétanque balls. Halley Production, run by partner Andrea Marcelli and producer Corentin Koskas, has boarded Javier Polo's feature film 'Carro Seco' ('Carreau'), which was showcased at the Co-Production and Financing Forum of Iberseries & Platino Industria in Madrid (Variety).
The film is a contemporary urban thriller set in Barcelona. Its vigilante killer dresses like a vintage pétanque player — the Provençal boules game played with heavy metal spheres — and is driven by the social fallout of gentrification. The Barcelona housing crisis and evictions sit at the centre of the story, with the killer targeting real estate speculators as a warped act of social retribution.
Javier Polo runs Los Hermanos Polo Films, based in València, with his brother Guillermo Polo. The company is producing 'Carro Seco' alongside Halley Production in Paris and Lastcrit in Barcelona. The screenplay comes from María Mínguez and Merli Marlowe. Victoria Pérez de la Cruz of Los Hermanos Polo Films produces, joined by Javier Polo, Guillermo Polo, Víctor Cuadros and Guillem Moreno.
Halley Production's track record in international co-production — films backed by companies across multiple countries, sharing budgets, tax incentives and distribution access — includes Javier Fesser's 2018 hit 'Champions' and Manuel Gómez Pereira's 2025 Goya-winning Spanish film 'The Dinner.' The company also has the forthcoming drama 'Primo Viaggio' on its slate.
'Carro Seco' was one of 23 feature film projects selected for the 2026 Co-Production and Financing Forum at Iberseries & Platino Industria, now in its fifth edition (TodoTVNews). The broader market — the sixth edition of Iberseries & Platino Industria — runs from 29 September to 2 October 2026 at Matadero Madrid, organised by EGEDA and Fundación Secuoya (FormatBiz). Eighty-four projects from 13 countries will be pitched across the event's platform and producer sessions.
For a project like 'Carro Seco,' the forum is where a promising screenplay meets the money and distribution partners needed to actually shoot the film. Halley Production's involvement brings French co-production resources — and access to European financing structures — to a story rooted firmly in a Spanish city's housing crisis.
