First Look at Paramount+ and MGM+ 'Treasure Island': Oyelowo, Atwell Lead Pirate Drama Premiering October
Paramount+ and MGM+ have unveiled the first images from their six-part pirate drama Treasure Island, with the series set to premiere on MGM+ in the U.S. on October 11 and on Paramount+ in the UK and Ireland on October 12. New episodes roll out weekly through November 15 on MGM+ and November 16 on Paramount+ UK/Ireland. Deadline
The seven first-look images, published exclusively by Deadline on September 9, give audiences their earliest glimpse of the cast in costume. David Oyelowo stars as Long John Silver, the charismatic pirate whose loyalties shift with the wind. Hayley Atwell plays Bess Hawkins, mother to young Jim Hawkins, played by Tom Sweet. Together, Jim and his mother come into possession of Captain Flint's legendary treasure map — the spark that sets the whole adventure in motion.
The series reimagines Robert Louis Stevenson's 1883 novel, a story that has been adapted for screen more times than most can count. This version comes from creator Robert Murphy, with Jeremy Lovering, William McGregor and Paul Walker sharing directing duties across the six episodes. Playground Entertainment produces, with Fifth Season attached in association. Mark Hedges serves as producer.
The cast runs deep. Jack Huston plays Aaron Graham. Tomer Capone, known to streaming audiences from The Boys, takes on Billy Bones — the old sailor whose dying warning sets Jim on his path. Craige Els is Mr Arrow, Tristan Sturrock is Captain Smollett, and Neil Pendleton plays Mr Cameron.
Behind the scenes, the commissioning story spans two platforms. Sebastian Cardwell and Paul Testar commissioned the series for Paramount+ UK & Ireland. Michael Wright and Alec Strum oversee production for MGM+. Executive producers include David Stern, Scott Huff and Colin Callender on behalf of Playground, alongside Daniel Gratton, Robert Murphy and Jeremy Lovering.
The casting was first reported by Variety in March 2026, with Deadline confirming the news the same week. At that point, the project was described as a series set at both Paramount+ and MGM+ with Oyelowo, Atwell and Huston attached. The full ensemble and premiere dates have since crystallised in the September first-look reveal.
For viewers, the weekly release model means the series will unfold over six weeks rather than landing all at once — a scheduling choice that keeps each episode in conversation for a few days before the next arrives. The split premiere, with MGM+ getting episodes one day ahead of Paramount+ UK/Ireland, reflects the two platforms sharing the original as a joint commission.
No streaming viewer figures, completion data or subscriber targets have been disclosed. The series has not yet been flagged for a second season.
