Blizzard has announced World of Warcraft Forever, a new version of WoW Classic that adds fresh stories and places to the game's original world.

The reveal came during the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2026 on 12 September, according to GameSpot. The event, BlizzCon 2026, runs on 12 and 13 September 2026, according to Blizzard.

For newcomers, WoW Classic is a return to the early form of World of Warcraft, the long-running online multiplayer game where thousands of players quest and fight together in a shared fantasy world. Forever keeps that old-school ruleset and map. It will stay focused on the first two continents, the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, instead of moving on to later expansions.

The content list is large. Blizzard plans up to 1,000 new quests alongside revamped zones. Three entirely new zones will open up areas that appeared on the original map but were never playable. There will also be nine new dungeons, small group adventures for teams of players, and two new raids, larger challenges built for big groups.

Player-versus-player combat, where human players fight each other, gets one more battleground. That is an arena-style map built for team contests.

Forever adds a new playable race, the Skyborn elves. One of the three new zones will act as their starting area. Classes, the character types such as warrior or mage, get new talents and skills. Players will also get new combinations of race and class.

Graphics get a choice. Players can switch between updated HD visuals and the blockier old-school look. The level cap is staying put. Blizzard plans to keep updating the game without lifting it past level 60.

The old game is not going away. The existing standard version of WoW Classic will remain playable alongside Forever.

A playable beta, a test version released before launch, goes live on 17 September. The full release is scheduled for 4 November.

What makes this stand out is the approach. Most Classic updates have replayed history step by step. Forever keeps the starting world and writes new material inside it, so veteran players get unfamiliar quests while the level limit and geography stay familiar.
