Warcraft 3 Gets First New Campaign in 23 Years
Warcraft 3 is getting its first new real-time strategy campaign in 23 years, and it goes live within hours of its reveal.
Blizzard announced Forsaken Kingdom during the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2026 on 12 September 2026. The campaign will be available in Warcraft 3: Reforged, a rebuilt version of the 2002 PC game, and will go live later on 12 September 2026, GameSpot reported.
The story turns back the clock. Forsaken Kingdom explores the origins of the Forsaken, the group of undead characters who broke free from mindless control, and the formation of the Undercity, their underground capital. It is set in the last days of Lordaeron, a fallen human kingdom, after its destruction by Arthas, the prince turned death knight whose fall drives much of Warcraft lore.
That history matters. Forsaken Kingdom is the first new Warcraft RTS content — RTS meaning a game where players build bases and direct armies in real time — since the Frozen Throne expansion released in 2003.
Blizzard is pairing the launch with a major refresh. The Warcraft 3: Reforged 3.0 update releases on 12 September 2026 and is free. It adds visual improvements and quality-of-life features, small practical changes to controls, menus and display intended to make an older game easier to play.
For fans, this means a very short wait. New campaigns are usually announced months ahead. Here the gap is hours.
The announcement opened a two-day fan event. BlizzCon 2026 is scheduled for 12 and 13 September 2026, with Blizzard planning World of Warcraft livestream programming, show-floor moments and in-game rewards around the show, according to Blizzard.
