Pierce Brosnan says next James Bond could be a complete unknown
Pierce Brosnan says the next James Bond could be someone nobody has heard of yet.
The former 007, who played the spy in four films from 1995 to 2002, said producers could “go left-field” and pick “someone that none of us know about”, according to Variety. He made the comment in an interview published on 10 September in The Times, titled ‘Pierce Brosnan at 73: Ageing? I’m blessed with good genes’.
Brosnan refused to name a favourite. Asked who he would pick, he replied: “I wouldn’t pick anyone.” He added that there are lots of good hats in the ring and lots of great actors being considered.
He also said he has not watched his own Bond films back since their release. He has no desire to see himself as Bond.
The comments come as Amazon MGM Studios prepares a new Bond film from director Denis Villeneuve. The studio has brought in casting director Nina Gold to run the organised search for a new 007, and final casting has not been confirmed.
Several British actors have been reported as being in the final running. That reported group includes Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Harris Dickinson and Jack Lowden.
Brosnan has spoken before about working with Villeneuve. In an interview with Radio Times in August 2025, he said he would consider returning as an older Bond if the director had something up his sleeve. He later said he would play the role again “in a heartbeat” for Villeneuve.
For fans waiting on news, this means the field is still open. No decision has been announced, and Brosnan is tipping patience over predictions.
