Vertical Acquires Cliffhanger Reboot for Spring 2027
Vertical has acquired the US rights to the Cliffhanger reboot starring Lily James and Pierce Brosnan, with a wide cinema release targeted for spring 2027, as reported by Deadline. The deal covers the United States, where Vertical will put the film into cinemas across the country. A spring launch is the plan.
Jaume Collet-Serra directs the new film, according to Deadline. The script is by Mark Bianculli and Melanie Toast, based on a story by Sacha Penn and Bianculli. That writing team has reshaped the mountain-rescue premise for a new cast.
Brosnan plays Ray Cooper, James plays Naomi and Nell Tiger Free plays Sydney, as reported by Deadline. The ensemble also includes Franz Rogowski, Shubham Saraf, Assaad Bouab, Suzy Bemba and Bruno Gouery. The names point to a rescue crew and the people they are trying to bring home.
Behind the camera, the producers are Lars Sylvest, Thorsten Schumacher, Joe Neurauter, Philipp Kreuzer, Neal Moritz and Toby Jaffe, according to Deadline. The US deal was organised by Peter Jarowey, Tony Piantedosi and Rachel White for Vertical, with CAA Media Finance acting for the film-makers. Rocket Science is handling international sales, the business of licensing cinema distribution territory by territory outside the United States.
The 1993 original Cliffhanger, starring Sylvester Stallone, earned over $255 million worldwide, as reported by Deadline. That figure is in US dollars and covers ticket sales around the world.
