Netflix Unveils First Trailer for Cliff Booth Sequel Starring Brad Pitt
Brad Pitt is back as Cliff Booth, and Netflix has unveiled the first full trailer for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, the follow-up to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The trailer reintroduces Booth as a former stuntman — the stand-in who performs dangerous scenes in place of a star — now picking up work around Hollywood. He fixes problems for hire, pours drinks as a bartender and runs films as a projectionist.
The film reaches cinemas first. It will play exclusively in Imax theatres around the world for two weeks from Nov. 25 before arriving on Netflix on Dec. 23, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Imax here means the extra-large screens with louder, sharper sound that cinemas book for event releases. Netflix has also posted an official film page with details on Tudum, its site for news about its shows and films, according to Netflix.
The trailer leans into old friendships. Booth jokes that he no longer doubles for actor Rick Dalton, the character played by Leonardo DiCaprio in the first film, because “Rick got too fat.” It is a quick gag. It also tells new viewers exactly where the two men stand.
Behind the camera, the pairing is unusual. The script comes from Quentin Tarantino, who wrote and directed Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, with David Fincher directing this time, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The story moves to 1977. That puts it eight years after Booth’s violent run-in with followers of cult leader Charles Manson in the earlier film.
New faces fill out 1970s Hollywood. Elizabeth Debicki plays Karen Crosby, a talent agent — the representative who finds actors jobs and negotiates deals. Her client is TV star Charlie Peters, played by Scott Caan, who is famous in the story for doing his own stunts. Carla Gugino plays Toni, Peters’ wife.
