Rangers sweep Celtic aside to set up Aberdeen semi-final
Rangers beat Celtic 3-0 at Ibrox on 13 September to reach the semi-finals of the Scottish League Cup.
Dan Neil scored twice as Rangers won the first Old Firm derby of the season, The Guardian reported. The Old Firm is the name for games between Glasgow rivals Rangers and Celtic. A quarter-final is a knockout tie in the last eight, with the winner going through to the last four.
Derek McInnes is the Rangers manager. His team controlled the lunchtime kick-off, which was listed for 12:00 on Sunday, and finished the job in front of their own supporters. Celtic had no answer to the pace and pressure.
Rangers will now face Aberdeen in the semi-finals. Aberdeen beat Kilmarnock in a penalty shootout, a tie-breaker used when a cup match is level, to book their place at Hampden.
The other semi-final is an Edinburgh derby. That is the name for a match between the city's two clubs, Heart of Midlothian and Hibernian. Hibernian beat Ross County 3-0 in their quarter-final, while Hearts beat Stenhousemuir by the same score, BBC Sport reported.
The draw pits Rangers against Aberdeen and Hearts against Hibs, Yahoo Sports reported. Both ties will be played at Hampden Park, Scotland's national stadium. They are scheduled for the weekend of 31 October and 1 November, according to the SPFL.
Rangers last won this trophy in the 2023-24 season. They beat Aberdeen 1-0 in that final, BBC Sport reported.
