McGregor says Rangers were a team as Celtic crash out at Ibrox

Rangers beat Celtic 3-0 at Ibrox on Sunday to reach the Scottish League Cup semi-finals.

It was a Premier Sports Cup quarter-final, the sponsored name for Scotland's League Cup. The win was Derek McInnes's first Old Firm victory as Rangers manager, Old Firm being the name for the Rangers-Celtic rivalry Sky Sports.

Dan Neil opened the scoring in the 23rd minute. He later added Rangers' third goal to complete a painful afternoon for the visitors BBC Sport.

Celtic captain Callum McGregor did not hide after the match. He said Rangers looked like a team while Celtic looked like a team of individuals.

He said Celtic looked like players who wanted to do their own thing. He said they did not run without the ball. He added that Celtic cannot defend with six players.

McGregor described the performance as poor in pretty much every area. Television pictures caught him telling the defence "no more goals" after Rangers scored their third.

The result ended Celtic's perfect domestic record. They arrived at Ibrox having won every domestic game this season.

It followed another sore exit. Celtic squandered a 4-0 aggregate lead to LASK in Champions League qualifying earlier in the season, Champions League qualifying being the play-off rounds that decide who reaches Europe's top club competition.

There is little time to dwell. Celtic begin their Europa League campaign, Europe's second-tier club competition, at home to Ferencvaros on Thursday at 20:00 BST. Then they host Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, Scotland's top flight, next weekend.

For fans, this means two quick chances to answer back. A home European night comes first, then the return derby in the league.
