Leeds v Newcastle could seal first winless home weekend since 2000
Leeds United against Newcastle United on Monday night could close out a Premier League weekend with no home wins for the first time in almost 26 years.
The two sides meet at Elland Road at 20:00 BST on 14 September, in the last game of week four of the 2026/27 season. The match will be shown live on Sky Sports, according to the Premier League.
None of the opening nine fixtures produced a home win. That leaves Leeds as the last home side who can stop the shutout. A draw or a Newcastle win — anything other than Leeds taking all three points on offer for a win — would confirm it.
History is close. The last full round without a single home win came on 23-24 September 2000, as noted by BBC Sport. Seven of those 10 games were draws. Southampton, West Ham United and Charlton Athletic provided the three away wins.
Only two other matchweeks have finished the same way. They came in December 1996 and on Boxing Day in 1994. That Boxing Day round came in the last season before the Premier League was cut from 22 teams to 20.
What makes this stand out is how rare it is. This is the 1,308th round of fixtures since the league began in August 1992. Three blank weekends for home sides in the previous 1,307 full rounds works out at 0.22%, or roughly once every 11-and-a-half seasons.
For fans, this means a strange kind of pressure at Elland Road. Leeds will want a home win for their own season. Everyone else gets a quiz question. The omens are mixed. Leeds' last Premier League home game against Newcastle ended 0-0, according to Yahoo Sport.
